Adam Sultan Wins A Blue Diamond Scholarship

Adam Sultan who is currently studying for a BSc in Horticulture at Writtle University College has been awarded a Blue Diamond Scholarship.
He originally trained as an electrical engineer with London Underground, but came to the realisation that life in the deep, dark tunnels of the tube were not where he wanted to spend his nights. Having left London, he embarked on a cycling tour across UK and on into Europe and Asia. During this journey he took on several volunteering roles and began to discover the delights of horticulture.
He says that he quite literally found light at the end of the tunnel!
On returning to the UK, Adam decided that he wanted to formally study horticulture and chose the degree course at Writtle as he felt offered a broad set of modules showing the many varied paths within horticulture.
One aspect that Adam finds particularly interesting is environmental management and the impact which horticulture plays on the environment, both positively and negatively. Adam has also developed a keen interest in the ornamental sector of horticulture and has become very aware of the need for skilled propagators within the UK horticultural industry.
Once he graduates, Adam is keen to find a job working in the ornamental sector of horticulture, and hopes to use his skills in environmental management, looking at mitigating the impact and adapting to, climate change within the horticulture industry.
Adam plans to use his scholarship award to help to pay his course fees and enable him make visits to broaden his horticultural knowledge. He told us: “I am delighted to have the support of the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation with my horticultural studies. This will enable me to continue developing and attain high standards within my studies, which I hope to then transfer into the industry. Thank you!”
This year, a Blue Diamond Scholarship has been awarded to 8 students who are studying horticulture. Blue Diamond recognises the need to support students with a passion for plants and a commitment to the horticultural industry.
