Plant Area Manager – Nailsworth Garden Centre

Location: Nailsworth Garden Centre
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Plant Area Manager to join the team at Nailsworth Garden Centre, taking responsibility for both our Seasonal and Hardy Plant areas.

About the Role

As Plant Area Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Seasonal and Hardy Plant areas, ensuring they are commercially successful, beautifully presented and consistently maintained to a high standard.

You will lead and develop the plant team, manage stock and availability, and use your strong horticultural knowledge to provide customers with excellent advice and service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the overall performance of the Seasonal and Hardy Plant areas

  • Lead, motivate and develop the plant team

  • Manage stock ordering, availability, stock rotation and plant quality

  • Maintain excellent standards of presentation, merchandising and housekeeping

  • Create inspirational and commercially focused plant displays

  • Monitor sales and performance, identifying opportunities to maximise sales

  • Manage seasonal changes and ensure the department is prepared for key trading periods

  • Provide customers with knowledgeable advice on plant selection and care

  • Ensure pricing and POS are accurate and maintained

  • Manage waste, markdowns and slow-moving stock

  • Work closely with the Garden Centre Manager and wider management team

  • Ensure all operational and company standards are consistently maintained

About You

We are looking for someone with proven experience in horticultural retail, with strong knowledge across both Seasonal and Hardy Plants.

You will ideally have previous experience managing or supervising a plant area and be confident leading a team. You will have a commercial approach, excellent plant knowledge and a genuine passion for horticulture.

You will also need to be:

  • A confident and supportive team leader

  • Commercially aware with a strong understanding of retail

  • Organised and able to manage competing priorities

  • Passionate about plants and gardening

  • Customer focused, with excellent communication skills

  • Hands-on and willing to get involved in all aspects of the plant area

  • Flexible to work weekends and during key seasonal trading periods
