Gita Evertovska

Hardy Plant Department Manager

As a Hardy Plant Department Manager, you'll lead a team while creating an inspiring and well-maintained plant area that keeps customers coming back. The role combines expert plant care, stock management, merchandising, and exceptional customer service, with the freedom to shape displays, place orders, and bring your own ideas to the department.

For Gita, one of the most rewarding parts of the role is being hands-on with her team and seeing both people and the plant area flourish. “I aim to spend as much time as possible on the shop floor supporting the team,” she says. “There’s something really rewarding about seeing displays come together and constantly change with the seasons, new plants, and fresh ideas.”

Gita joined the business in 2019 as a General Assistant before developing into a Plant Area Manager later that year through hands-on experience and support from the wider team. In 2023, she took the next step in her career by moving to Redfield’s to lead the Hardy Plant department in a larger, higher-turnover store.

Mercia Westbury

Hardy & Indoor Plant Manager

As a Plant Manager at Blue Diamond, you'll combine horticultural expertise with commercial awareness, leading a department that delivers exceptional plant quality, inspiring displays, and outstanding customer service.

Mercia’s career demonstrates where a passion for plants can lead. “Whilst studying horticulture at college, I took a part-time job at a garden centre to help with my studies – and as they say, the rest is history.” Since then, she has worked across the UK, participated in major flower shows, and progressed to the role of Hardy and Indoor Plant Manager. Having spent the last six years with Blue Diamond, she values the autonomy to run her department with creativity while embracing the company’s commercial vision and high standards.

The role is fast-paced and can be physically demanding, particularly during the busy spring season, but Mercia finds it immensely rewarding. “Keeping on top of ordering, deliveries, staffing and watering can seem overwhelming at first, but seeing all those plants finding new homes in customers’ gardens makes it all worthwhile.” Her story reflects the opportunities available at Blue Diamond for those looking to build a long-term career in horticultural retail.

Phoebe Cater

Category Manager

As a Category Manager at Blue Diamond, you'll play a key role in shaping our product ranges, balancing commercial performance with an exceptional customer experience. The role combines data analysis, stock management, supplier relationships, pricing, and planning, with the autonomy to make profit-led decisions that help drive the business forward.

Phoebe’s journey into horticulture began when her A Levels were cancelled during the COVID pandemic. Looking for a role that suited her love of numbers and learning, she started as an admin assistant before progressing to Trainee Buyer, then Buyer, and ultimately Category Manager. Today, she oversees categories including herbaceous plants and roses, where careful planning and analysis are essential to managing peak seasonal demand.

“What I enjoy most is having the freedom to make data-led decisions to protect and generate profit while shaping our range to give customers the best possible experience,” says Phoebe. Working closely with experienced colleagues and industry leaders has accelerated her development, giving her opportunities to deepen her knowledge of products, analysis, and leadership. At Blue Diamond, she believes there is always something new to learn and that “there is never a dull moment.”

Kyle Ross

Plant Nursery Manager

As Nursery Manager, Kyle oversees the day-to-day running of the nursery, ensuring plants are grown to the highest standards before they reach our garden centres. The role combines horticultural expertise with team leadership, production planning, and a focus on quality, helping to deliver healthy, vibrant plants that customers can enjoy for years to come.

“If you enjoy working with plants and seeing the results of your hard work every day, it’s an incredibly rewarding career,” says Kyle. “No two days are ever the same, and there’s real satisfaction in watching a crop develop from start to finish. I also enjoy supporting the team and sharing knowledge, because when everyone grows, the nursery thrives.”

For Kyle, working at Blue Diamond offers the opportunity to combine hands-on horticulture with leadership and continuous improvement. “It’s a fast-paced environment where you’re trusted to make decisions, solve problems, and take pride in producing the very best plants. There’s always something new to learn, and that’s what keeps the role exciting.”

Leanne Blackman

Plant Retail Support

Working in Plant Retail Support (Merchandising) is all about keeping the business running smoothly behind the scenes. The role focuses on product administration, including loading new lines, managing ranges, implementing price changes, maintaining accurate data, and supporting the buying team to ensure stores have the right products at the right time.

For Leanne, the role offers the perfect blend of organisation, problem-solving, and collaboration. “I enjoy working with the buying team to make sure everything is set up correctly, from product information and pricing to seasonal updates and promotions. It’s rewarding to know that the work we do behind the scenes has a direct impact on stores and the customer experience.”

The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with systems and data, has a keen eye for detail, and takes pride in keeping everything accurate and up to date. It’s a key support role that helps bring Blue Diamond’s plant ranges to life across the business.
