Hours: 40 hours per week, including alternate weekends

Peterborough Garden Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Plant Area Supervisor to join our team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong plant knowledge who enjoys being hands-on, working with customers and supporting a team to deliver excellent standards. You'll work closely with the Plant Area Manager, helping to drive sales, maintain plant quality and create an inspiring department for our customers.

The Role

As Plant Area Supervisor, you will support the Plant Area Manager with the day-to-day running of the department, ensuring it is well stocked, commercially presented and maintained to a consistently high standard.

You'll be visible and hands-on within the department, supporting colleagues, helping customers and ensuring our plants are cared for and presented at their very best.

You'll also gain experience across the commercial side of the department, including stock management, ordering, sales performance and reducing waste.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Plant Area Manager with the day-to-day running of the department.
  • Help lead, motivate and support the team, ensuring high standards are maintained.
  • Deliver excellent customer service, offering knowledgeable plant advice and assistance.
  • Maintain excellent plant quality, availability and presentation throughout the department.
  • Support plant ordering, stock management, allocations and stock rotation.
  • Create attractive and inspirational displays that encourage sales.
  • Monitor stock levels and help minimise waste and markdowns.
  • Use sales information and performance data to identify opportunities and support departmental growth.
  • Ensure the Plant Area is clean, safe and well presented at all times.
  • Deputise for the Plant Area Manager when required.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has strong plant and horticultural knowledge.
  • Has experience within a garden centre, nursery, horticultural or similar retail environment.
  • Ideally has previous supervisory experience or is ready to take the next step into a leadership role.
  • Is commercially aware and understands the importance of sales, stock management and presentation.
  • Enjoys working with customers and providing knowledgeable, friendly service.
  • Is confident supporting and motivating a team.
  • Is proactive, organised and comfortable working in a busy, hands-on environment.
  • Is comfortable using systems and sales data, with Excel experience advantageous.
