We're now looking for an experienced Seasonal Bedding & Indoor Plant Manager to join the team at Orchard Park Garden Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong horticultural knowledge, commercial awareness and a passion for retail to lead one of the centre's most vibrant departments.

The Role

As Seasonal Bedding & Indoor Plant Manager, you will have full responsibility for the performance, presentation and profitability of the department. You'll ensure it is beautifully merchandised, well stocked and maintained to the highest standards while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll combine plant expertise with commercial decision-making, leading your team to maximise sales throughout the seasons while maintaining outstanding plant quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Sales Performance

  • Take ownership of the department's sales, profitability and overall performance.
  • Analyse sales reports and seasonal trends to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Implement commercial strategies to maximise sales throughout the year.
  • Manage stock levels to ensure excellent availability while minimising waste.

Stock Management & Merchandising

  • Oversee the ordering of seasonal bedding plants and indoor plants in line with customer demand and seasonal trends.
  • Ensure excellent stock rotation and maintain outstanding plant quality.
  • Manage markdowns and slow-moving stock effectively.
  • Create inspiring seasonal displays that encourage sales and showcase the department at its best.
  • Ensure all point-of-sale material is accurate, attractive and up to date.

Customer Experience

  • Deliver outstanding customer service at all times.
  • Offer expert advice on seasonal bedding, indoor plants and general plant care.
  • Train and support your team to provide knowledgeable, friendly service.
  • Assist customers with product selection and carry-to-car service where appropriate.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, motivate and develop the Seasonal Bedding & Indoor Plant team.
  • Organise daily workloads, rotas and priorities.
  • Coach and support colleagues through regular feedback and development.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding and training of both permanent and seasonal team members.
  • Create a positive, engaged and high-performing team culture.

Operational Standards

  • Maintain exceptional housekeeping, merchandising and presentation standards across both indoor and outdoor plant areas.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and health & safety standards.
  • Use EPOS and reporting systems to monitor stock and performance.
  • Conduct regular department reviews and implement improvements where required.

Wider Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Centre Management team to support wider business objectives.
  • Deputise for senior management when required.
  • Resolve operational issues promptly and effectively.

About You

You'll be an experienced horticultural retailer who combines strong plant knowledge with excellent commercial awareness and leadership skills.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience managing a horticultural, seasonal bedding or indoor plant department.
  • A strong understanding of seasonal plants, indoor plants and plant care.
  • Commercial awareness with a proven ability to drive sales and profitability.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing retail teams.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work alternate weekends and busy seasonal periods.
