Rosa ‘Gracious Lady’

On Wednesday 19th July, Blue Diamond Garden Centres will launch a new and exclusive rose to celebrate a very special birthday and to honour actor Barbara Knox MBE. Rosa ‘Gracious Lady’, bred by Rosen Tantau, is a climbing rose which produces fragrant, long-lasting, light orange blooms which radiate in the sunlight. With good disease resistance, and growing to a height of approx. 1.5-3m, this rose is perfect for training up walls and pergolas. Planted in peat-free compost and a kerbside recyclable pot.

Barbara Knox, MBE

Barbara Knox has been one of Britain's most popular TV stars across an incredible seven decades, with her role as the legendary Rita in ITV's Coronation Street making her an iconic figure for millions of viewers.

As she prepares to turn 90, we are celebrating a remarkable career and reflecting her own hobbies and passions.

Barbara is a very keen gardener, so it is a huge source of personal pride to have a rose inspired by, and named after her, and a very fitting celebration!

Group Relationship Manager, Jill Kerr, said; “Blue Diamond are delighted to be able to launch a rose for this very special and iconic lady, especially given the soap’s Northern roots, which link with those of the home of Fryer’s roses, which is only stones-throw from RHS Tatton Park Flower Show in Knutsford, Cheshire”.

In August 2022, Blue Diamond announced a five-year collaboration with the National Trust. The jewel in the crown of this collaboration is an exclusive agreement whereby the National Trust will allow Blue Diamond to propagate some of their most significant, unusual and unique plants. These include Isaac Newton’s Apple Tree and The Ankerwycke Yew.

At the Show, Blue Diamond will be showcasing and selling products developed with the National Trust including newly launched rosa ‘Mottisfont’, other National Trust inspired roses, herbaceous plants, seeds and seed gifting.

Through sales generated from the National Trust Collection by Blue Diamond, a minimum of 10% of the retail sales price per product will be given to the National Trust to help look after nature, beauty and history for everyone, forever.

Newton's Apple Tree Auction

Visitors to the Show will also have the chance to register their interest to bid in an exclusive online auction, for one of ten very special apple trees. These apple trees are direct descendants to the tree that inspired Newton’s theory of gravity, which can still be seen at Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire, and which is cared for by the National Trust.

The auction will take place in September and those who are who are successful in their bid, will become custodians of these historically significant trees.

Blue Diamond have pledged that they will donate up to 50% of proceeds raised from this auction to the National Trust, dependent on the final sums raised.

Bridgemere Show Gardens - RHS Partner Garden stand- artist impression of the Miniature Cottage Garden

Head Gardener from Bridgemere Show Gardens, Bernard Porter and Gardener Samantha Farr, have created a border at RHS Tatton Park Flower Show, representing their oldest RHS Gold medal-winning garden; the Cottage Garden. This garden was originally designed by John Ravenscoft, the first owner of Bridgemere, in conjunction with the Women’s Institute for the 1988 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The 4x4m border is planted with traditional country garden favourites and includes key elements from that award-winning garden. Both Gardeners will be on hand throughout the duration of the Show to talk to visitors about Bridgemere Show Gardens.
