Blue Diamond Garden Centres are proudly supporting Let it Grow this Spring

The UK’s second largest Garden Centre Group, Blue Diamond, are partnering with BBC Radio 2 for Let it Grow by donating 45,000 packets of Forget me Not seeds.

From the 27th March, visitors to any Blue Diamond Garden Centre will be able to pick up a free pack of Forget me Not Seeds so that they can get involved and give growing a go.

The BBC’s Let it Grow initiative will help the nation “turn dull and grey places into wild and colourful places” by reaching and supporting audiences beyond those traditionally reached by nature and gardening programming. These include audiences without regular access to private green space, to those who have not yet tried planting and growing before. For more information visit bbc.co.uk/grow

Blue Diamond will continue to encourage and support gardeners and non-gardeners alike throughout 2023 to bring nature into their neighbourhood, simply visit our Gardening Hub at bluediamond.gg for more gardening tips and/or resources.

 Growing Forget me Nots outdoors

Type of Flower

Forget-me-not, or Myosotis, are easy to grow, pretty spring flowers, which produce delicate pale blue flowers. Ideal for shady spots but they also work at the front of borders and at the edges of paths. They self-seed easily making them the perfect choice for areas that need filling and can also look great in a window box or container.

Growing Conditions:

They grow best in moist, but well-drained soil and prefer a shady spot but will grow well in sunnier, partially-shaded spots too.

When to plant your seeds:

You can sow your seeds directly into the garden in May through to June or indoors, May, June and September. Forget me nots will produce flowers the following year and then year on in.

When can I expect my seeds to flower?

Forget me nots will produce flowers the following year and then year on in.

How to plant your Forget-Me-Not seeds:

1.  Find a partially shaded spot in your garden where you wish for your Forget-Me-Nots to grow.

2.  Moisten the soil before planting with a little water.

3.  Next, you should rake the soil until it is a fine texture.

4.  Plant each seed about half a centimetre deep, and if planting multiple seeds, leave15cm to 30cm between each one to allow for plenty of growing space.

5.  Once the seeds are in the soil, gently cover them over with approximately half a centimetre of soil.

Growing Forget me Not seeds in a container

Container grown forget-me-nots can do just as well as those in beds and borders, and are ideal if your garden space is limited

  1.  Choose a pot that has drainage holes.
  2. Sprinkle seeds and cover with peat free compost.
  3. Seeds will flower the following year after sowing and will flower year on in.

*Subject to availability and whilst stocks last. One pack per person/household.

No cash alternative will be offered
