The Role

As Garden Features & Containers Department Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership, commercial performance, and operational management of one of the garden centre's most visually impactful departments.

Your department will include garden pots and planters, decorative containers, water features, statues, outdoor ornaments, garden features, and associated products.

You will lead and develop your team to deliver exceptional customer service, maximise sales opportunities, and maintain the highest standards of merchandising and stock management.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a commercially driven retail manager who can inspire teams, drive performance, and create engaging retail displays that encourage customer interaction and sales.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the department to achieve sales, margin, and profitability targets
• Manage and develop a high-performing team through coaching and leadership
• Deliver exceptional customer service standards
• Maintain outstanding visual merchandising and product presentation
• Oversee stock control, ordering, replenishment, and stock management
• Analyse sales performance and identify opportunities to drive growth
• Plan and execute seasonal displays, promotions, and new product launches
• Manage rota planning and daily operational organisation
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and health & safety standards
• Conduct regular shop floor reviews to maintain high retail standards
• Work closely with senior management to support wider business objectives

The Ideal Candidate

• Proven experience in a retail management role within garden retail, home and outdoor living, DIY, or a similar retail environment
• Strong commercial awareness with experience managing sales performance and KPIs
• Excellent leadership and people management skills
• Strong understanding of merchandising, stock control, and retail operations
• Passion for creating inspiring displays and delivering excellent customer service
• Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively
• High attention to detail and pride in presentation standards
• Hands-on management style with a positive and flexible approach
• Ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve results
• Ambition to grow and develop within a successful and expanding retail business
