Seasonal Bedding and Indoor Plant Supervisor- Huntingdon Garden Centre

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Seasonal Bedding & Indoor Plant Supervisor to support the day-to-day running of our Seasonal Bedding and Indoor Plant Department.

Hours: Full-time, 42.5 hours per week, including alternate weekend working
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

The Role

Working closely with the Department Manager and wider management team, you will help ensure the department is well-presented, fully stocked, and delivers an excellent customer experience at all times. This is a hands-on role where you will lead by example, support team performance, and contribute to achieving departmental sales and operational targets.

You will play an important role in maintaining high retail standards across both outdoor seasonal bedding and indoor plant areas while providing expert plant knowledge and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Department Support

• Support the achievement of departmental sales targets and KPIs
• Assist in implementing promotional activity and seasonal sales initiatives
• Identify opportunities to maximise sales through effective merchandising and customer engagement
• Support the monitoring of stock levels and availability

Stock Management & Merchandising

• Assist with ordering, receiving, and replenishing seasonal bedding and indoor plant stock
• Ensure stock is cared for correctly, maintaining plant quality and health
• Support stock rotation and help minimise waste and losses
• Create and maintain attractive seasonal and indoor plant displays
• Ensure pricing and POS materials are accurate and clearly displayed

Customer Experience

• Deliver outstanding customer service and lead by example on the shop floor
• Provide expert advice on seasonal bedding plants, indoor plants, and general gardening care
• Support customers with product selection and carry-to-car assistance where required
• Help resolve customer queries professionally and efficiently
• Encourage a positive and welcoming shopping environment

Team Support & Supervision

• Support the day-to-day supervision of the Seasonal Bedding & Indoor Plant team
• Assist with task allocation and daily workload planning
• Provide coaching, guidance, and support to team members
• Help train and induct new and seasonal colleagues
• Promote a positive, motivated, and customer-focused team culture
• Act as a key point of contact in the absence of the Department Manager

Operational Standards

• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, plant care, and department presentation
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health & safety requirements
• Use EPOS and stock systems accurately
• Carry out regular department checks and address issues promptly
• Support seasonal changeovers and promotional setups

Wider Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with other departments and management teams
• Assist with garden centre events, promotions, and seasonal projects
• Provide supervisory support across the garden centre when required
• Escalate operational issues to management as appropriate

About You

• Previous experience in horticultural retail, garden centres, plant areas, or a similar retail environment
• Good knowledge of seasonal bedding plants, indoor plants, and general plant care
• Experience supervising or leading a team is desirable
• Passionate about delivering excellent customer service
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Confident communicator with a positive and proactive approach
• Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, seasonal retail environment
• Flexible and willing to work alternate weekends and peak seasonal periods
