The Parlour Restaurant at Springfields Garden Centre is seeking a talented Chef to join our close-knit brigade. This is a rare opportunity to produce beautiful, seasonal-inspired dishes in a kitchen that values quality, consistency, and flair — all while enjoying an exceptional work-life balance with no evening service.

Working closely with the Sous Chef and Head Chef, this role mirrors the responsibilities and standards of a Chef de Partie, offering real ownership of a section and the chance to shape dishes that delight our loyal customers.

The Role

As Chef, you will take responsibility for running your section efficiently and professionally, ensuring every dish leaving the kitchen reflects our commitment to freshness, flavour, and presentation. You will contribute to a menu driven by the seasons, showcasing locally sourced produce wherever possible.

You will report directly to the Sous Chef and Head Chef and play a key role in maintaining the high standards that define The Parlour Restaurant.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Service

  • Prepare, cook, and present high-quality seasonal dishes to specification
  • Take ownership of a designated section during service
  • Ensure consistency, portion control, and presentation standards at all times
  • Contribute ideas for daily specials and menu development
  • Maintain speed and efficiency during busy service periods
  • Ensure all food is prepared in line with allergen and dietary requirements

Kitchen Operations

  • Assist with daily mise en place and stock rotation
  • Ensure your section is fully prepared for service
  • Monitor stock levels and communicate requirements to senior chefs
  • Minimise waste and support cost control measures
  • Support smooth kitchen operations across all sections when required

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and safety standards
  • Follow HACCP procedures and company policies
  • Ensure correct storage, labelling, and dating of food items
  • Keep work areas clean, organised, and safe
  • Assist with cleaning schedules and closing procedures

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams
  • Support junior staff where required
  • Communicate clearly with senior chefs regarding service needs
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude at all times
 

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience in a professional kitchen at Commis or Chef de Partie level
  • Strong cooking skills with attention to detail
  • Passion for fresh, seasonal food
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented

Desirable

  • Experience in café, restaurant, or garden centre dining
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Interest in modern British seasonal cuisine
  • Confidence running a section independently
