Position: Gardening Department General Assistant

Location: Barton Grange Garden Centre, Blue Diamond Group

Hours: 39.75 hours per week, full-time, including alternate weekends

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

The Role

As a Gardening Department General Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring the department is well presented, fully stocked, and ready to welcome customers every day.

This position requires someone who is physically capable and comfortable working in a manual role, with a primary focus on the following product areas:

  • Compost
  • Pots
  • Water Features
  • Garden Ornaments and Statues
  • Aggregates

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining high standards of presentation throughout the Gardening Department
  • Replenishing stock and ensuring availability across key product areas
  • General shop floor maintenance and housekeeping
  • Assisting customers with product advice and providing carry-to-car service
  • Operating the EPOS system for transactions and stock-related tasks
  • Merchandising stock and supporting departmental displays
  • Printing and placing POS material in relevant areas
  • Following guidelines and action points from reports and floor walks
  • Carrying out additional duties as required by the Department Manager

 

About You:

Previous retail or garden centre experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable, and keen to learn.

Essential skills and qualities include:

  • A friendly and helpful approach to customer service
  • A strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative
  • Physical fitness, as the role involves regular manual handling
  • Flexibility to work alternate weekends
