The Role
As a Goods In General Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for all incoming stock and deliveries. This is a vital and physically demanding role that requires excellent organisational skills and a proactive approach. You will be responsible for ensuring goods are received, processed, and moved to the shop floor efficiently, keeping our garden centre looking its best and our stock levels accurate.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and process deliveries: Unload goods from vehicles safely and efficiently, using equipment such as pallet trucks and trolleys as required.
• Stock management: Accurately check in new stock against delivery notes, reporting any discrepancies or damaged items.
• Organisation and placement: Move stock from the goods-in area to the correct department or storage location.
• Merchandising support: Assist with pricing, labelling, and restocking shelves and displays on the shop floor.
• Heavy lifting: Regularly handle heavy and bulky items, including bags of compost, furniture, and large planters.
• Maintenance and housekeeping: Help keep the goods-in area, stock room, and shop floor clean and tidy to ensure a safe working environment.
• General support: Be flexible and assist other departments as needed during busy periods, such as helping customers with heavy purchases.
• Adherence to safety: Follow all health and safety procedures related to manual handling and equipment operation.

• Forklift experience is a bonus but not essential: Training can be provided for the right candidate.
• Previous retail or warehouse experience is desirable but not required; a positive, can-do attitude is most important.
